The Christmas Pine is another magical book from the pen of beloved author, Julia Donaldson. With her signature gentle rhymes, The Christmas Pine tells the story of a little tree in the forest that grows and grows into a majestic pine. One day, people come and take it on a truck, then on a ship across the sea, to finally set it up as a Christmas tree. The tree enjoys people flocking around it and particularly children singing Christmas carols under its snowy boughs.
The story is based on the tradition of the Mayor of Oslo in Norway's annual gift of a special Christmas tree to the British people. It is a symbol of peace and friendship and a thank you for the UK's support during World War II. The tree is selected months in advance and given the name the Queen of the Forest. It travels over 1,000km to London's Trafalgar Square.
The Christmas Pine is a beautiful hardcover book with a matte feel and details picked out in a metallic raised finish. The pages are also beautifully matte and feature detailed illustrations by Victoria Sandøy, a Norwegian illustrator.
