The Barka Arts Aboriginal Peg Dolls in Red are a family of six little wooden dolls, handcrafted by Chloe, a proud young Indigenous woman from Barkindji & Maliangappa Mobs situated along the Darling River Western NSW, and Gamilaroi from Northern NSW.
From the artist: "Created with inspiration from my old Indigenous dance days, where the girls wore black, red or other coloured dresses and the boys wore the traditional Lap Lap. Painted up in traditional Ocher; A clay rock made into a paste and painted onto our skin and clothing to be one with the land."
The Peg Dolls are deliberately left without facial expressions, allowing children to come up with their own stories and scenarios for their little friends. They arebeautiful, natural toys that allow for educational, fun play.
Being hand-finished from natural materials, each of Barka Arts' beautiful offerings is unique, with slightly different patterns, paint finishes, shaping, wood grain, texture, and occasional wood knots showing.
